Kinky Friedman is a Mouth-Breathing, Knuckle-Dragging Dixiecrat

Holy Half-Nelson!

It just came to me. A bolt out of the blue.

Kinky Friedman is a mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging Dixiecrat.

How do you get all of those qualities all rolled up into this black Stetsoned, cigar (and grass) smoking (Willie doesn’t lie), boot-wearing, Guinness-drinking-in-a-moving-vehicle, minority-disparaging candidate for Texas governor?

Until recently, I thought that Zell Miller was the last specimen of Dixiecrat on the face of the earth. I have since met, through my work in Fort Bend County, several of their, previously believed extinct ilk. I thought that they had all evolved in the past twenty years. Their original protective coloration was blue, but they can now blend in well to red surroundings.

Almost all.

Kinky Friedman is a Dixiecrat.

Dixiecrats are an enigma to me. They profess all of the Democratic Party values that I embrace. They hate the war in Iraq. They think that the Republican-dominated Congress has built up a debt that will be difficult to pay down without some sacrifice. And, in addition to that, they don’t especially “cotton up” to non-white people.

How can a person hold humanistic Democratic values, and also be a racist? Be a Dixiecrat. Dixiecrats cannot separate observation from inference. It came to me when I read, as mentioned in my previous posting, that Kinky Friedman offered that he is “not a racist, but a realist”.

Bells rang.

Dixiecrats are un-self-acknowledged racists. They don’t know that they are racists because they see their conclusions as fact. Kinky said that Katrina victims who have not returned to New Orleans are “crack heads and thugs”. I know several Katrina victims. They are not crack heads. They do not knock over old ladies for their social security checks. They are unanimously pissed off at Kinky’s suggestion that this is so. This is true about Dixiecrats: they cannot differentiate between an objective observation and an inference. Their conclusions become their reality. They are realists, but sadly, only in their own minds.

So when Kinky does the n-word. When he refers to Katrina victims as criminals. When he fails to apologize for any of that, calling himself, instead, a “realist”. The explanation is this: Kinky is only being Kinky. And Kinky Friedman is a Dixiecrat.

And Kinkster fanatics want to post a comment? Forget it. This blog is moderated. Save your keystrokes. Go read Fox News instead.

But Kinky doesn't hate the war:

Susannah McNeely: ... after your bid for Justice of the Peace in ’86, you said you were leaving “that worthless tar baby that is politics” to the young people. What happened that changed your mind and prompted you to run for governor of Texas?

Kinky Friedman: Nothing changed my mind, that’s still correct. This is not a political campaign. It’s a spiritual one—a spiritual calling.
...
SM: So does this idea of the honorable cowboy have anything to do with why you threw your support behind President Bush in this last election? You did, didn’t you?

KF: Yes. I did in this last election, but I didn’t vote for him the first time.

SM: Who did you vote for in 2000?

KF: I voted for Gore then.
I was conflicted. . .but I was not for Bush that time. Since then, though, we’ve become friends. And that’s what’s changed things.

SM: So it’s your friendship with him that’s changed your mind about having him as president more than his specific political positions?

KF: Well, actually, I agree with most of his political positions overseas, his foreign policy. On domestic issues, I’m more in line with the Democrats. I basically think he played a poor hand well after September 11. What he’s been doing in the Near East and in the Middle East, he’s handling that well, I think.

Kinky statements about his vote for Gore has proven false based on Kinky's public Kerr County voting records:

"Quite often, I did not like my choices," Friedman was quoted as saying in Friday's Dallas Morning News....

"The voting record doesn't look strong, but my voting record is better than Dick Cheney's," he said....

According to Kerr County voting records, Friedman voted in the 2004 presidential general election but not in any other contest since 1994.

Like I say, Dixiecrats are an enigma to me. Just about the only thing that is consistent from one to another is the fact that they are racists, but will deny it to their dying breath.

Hal,

Have you heard anything about how the Texas house or the LTG race might go this year? I've heard nothing about them.

All I have heard is that there are several serious challenges to Republican incumbents this year. Fallout from the upballot, but also Texas apparently isn't immune to voter distrust of those who have enjoyed power for too long. Someone is probably keeping score, but I don't know who.

Haven't really attended to Alvarado's race as much as I could so I don't know about the other.

Kinky wrote this in the July 27, 2006 edition of High Times:

"Take it easy now, Kinkster," said Robert Young. "You've had a bad accident and you're in the Cedars of Tedium Hospital. Apparently you were run over by a bookmobile as you were coming out of a men's room in Denver, Colorado. To save your life we had to give you a transfusion using the blood of a person of the Negro persuasion."

"That's moderately unpleasant," I said.

"Well, there's a good side of things, too," said Robert Young. "Your welfare checks should start coming in a few weeks, and your penis just grew twelve inches. Ha-ha-ha."

Until recently, I was a Kinky supporter, but I'm fairly uncomfortable with this comment. This wasn't 26 years ago. It was just a couple of months ago during Kinky's campaign. At a minimum, that shows poor judgment.

At first I thought this was just a joke posting of one of Kinky's fanatics, and filed it away under check the link when I have time. I just did and the link is worth looking at.

Ask any black person (if you have the nerve) what they would prefer people referring them to, black or negro. Kinky makes use of the word in a despicable manner. If Texans elect this racist dixiecrat governor, I think I'll have to move back to California, but only after The Governator is deposed.
