My Impassioned Plea to Arizona Sec State Bennett

Unless you have been asleep in this very political year, you have not missed the maniacal actions of the Arizona Secretary of State, Ken Bennett, who has pondered over whether he, as a responsible Secretary of State in charge of elections in his state, should allow President Barack Obama’s name on the November ballot considering the fact that he may not be constitutionally qualified to lead this nation because of the constitutional proviso that the president must be a naturally born citizen and not naturalized.

He embarked on his quest to establish President Obama’s true citizenship after receiving over 1,200, count ‘em, 1,200 emails from concerned Arizonans. Now that’s what I call being responsible and proactive.

So I noted today that a new website has sprung up, a website that is alarmed that presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is not exactly human. Although the constitution does not explicitly restrict a president to the zoological classification of Homo sapiens, I think it is implied when they use the word “person” in reference to who can be president.

Now I have it on good authority that Mitt Romney has never denied that he is a unicorn. In fact he has ignored the charge, which is completely callous.

And now I find that this website has collected more than 17,000 emails that they have forwarded to the office of the Arizona Secretary of State. Emails that demand that Mitt Romney subject himself to an examination of his DNA to prove, at long last, that he is not a unicorn but is a human being as he purports to be.

17,000 emails.

Here’s some math:

Twelve hundred emails demanding that Obama is a US citizen goes into 17,000 emails demanding that Mitt Romney establish his humanity is exactly 14 and 1/6 times.

Over 14 times the number of emails that persuaded him to investigate President Obama’s citizenship.

They got mine today. Here is what I wrote in addition to the generic message generated by the website:

Sec State Bennett, thank you for investigating whether President Barack Obama was indeed born in the state of Hawaii. I wasn't there to witness it and I want answers. On the other hand, presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has time and time again refused to submit to a DNA test to quell persistent rumors that he is, indeed, a unicorn. Join me in demanding that Mitt Romney prove once and for all the falseness of these outrageous, but believable rumors.
This is serious guys. Unicorns carry lethal weapons mounted on their foreheads, and I have heard of no state law that allows the “conceal carry” or even “open carry” of a unicorn horn. Mitt needs to come to terms with these charges.

The very real stiffness of the man, and his lack of any perceivable sense of humor casts doubt on Mitt Romney’s humanity. This is just the icing on the cake.

Come Clean Mitt Romney!

Rightwing: He’s Still a Kenyan

Well President Obama caved to the juvenile and inane demands of the far right to produce a “long form” birth certificate and produced his Hawaiian birth certificate earlier today, proving beyond doubt that he is a natural born American citizen.

You would think.

Actually the other thing he proved today is that it never was about whether he is a natural born citizen and not a Kenyan. It never was about that. What it was about is that there are people out there who cannot accept that Barack Hussein Obama is their president, and that a black man lives in the “Whites Only” House.

He also proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was absolutely correct not to produce the birth certificate that they demanded because there was absolutely nothing that this would settle once he did.

Because now, these birthers are singing a new song and its title isn’t “I’m Sorry,” It’s “It’s a Fake.”

From Hotair:President Obama continues to make the mistake that these people are serious doubters, and all they require is serious answers and serious documentation. They. Are. Not. Serious.
“The Smoking Gun expresses some doubts, though these are largely directed at what the site refers to whimsically as the “certers” (the replacement term for “birthers”?)”

“Noting that the document will now receive the same scrutiny as the clearly fabricated Texas Air National Guard memos that ended the career of CBS veteran Dan Rather, the gun points out a few “nutty points about the birth certificate sure to be seized upon by the nonbelievers:”

“Chief among these is the unexplained disparity between the curvature on the left side of the page (seeming to suggests the certificate was taken from a multipage volume) and the unbroken pattern on the green security paper. Shouldn’t the pattern also curve? Is a puzzlement, no?”
President Obama continues to make the mistake that these people are serious doubters, and all they require is serious answers and serious documentation. They. Are. Not. Serious.

They are racists and liars. They will never be silent. They will never give up trying to discredit this man who they revile.

Oh, and by the way, Donald Trump, who famously said that he would produce his tax returns when Obama produced his birth certificate must now make good on his promise, don't you think?

Terry Lakin Gets 6 Months in the Federal Pen

Remember Terry Lakin? The birther Army lieutenant colonel who refused to deploy to Afghanistan because he questioned whether President Obama was the lawful President of the United States because he suspected he was not a natural born citizen of the United States?

He said that if Obama is not President, then any order he issues is illegal.

The “Birther Doctor” just got his wish it seems. He will not be deployed to Afghanistan, instead he will be deployed for six months in a federal prison.

The prosecution in his court martial asked for 2 years. He got a quarter of that as well as a severance from the military.

“The prosecutor said Lakin had other options such as resigning or asking not to be deployed if he had issues with his orders. Instead, he used his deployment earlier this year as a political ploy, O'Beirne said, going to great lengths to create a "spectacle" by informing people of what he was doing.”

“‘He knew exactly what he was doing and he did it anyway,’ O'Beirne told the jury, asking members to send a message with their sentence and telling them they could ‘write the headline’ that appears in papers about Lakin.”
Like how he politicized the whole thing in this You Tube video:

Yes, he could have resigned, but he opted for the politics of the moment to get him out of going to the war zone. Too bad. He had a better shot at getting out of going to Afghanistan if he had just gone to his commanding officer and propositioned him. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was in full swing, and it still is despite the wishes of a President, a Secretary of Defense, a Joint Chiefs of Staff, 70% of all military service people, and the majority in the House of Representatives.

And a majority of Americans.

In the Senate there are 61 filibuster-breaking votes that can get the bill to repeal DADT to the Senate floor. What are the chances that it will come to a vote once and for all before those filibuster-breaking votes go away in January?

I Agree With You but the Courts Don’t

How do you play both sides of the fence? How do you mollify the lunatic fringe of your party, keep the moderates from looking at you askance, and all at the same time blaming the “liberal courts” for saddling the country with an ineligible president.

You resort to what Congresswoman Jean Schmidt (R- Ohio) did in a town hall meeting that she held on September 5th in Westchester, Ohio.

You get the distraught person’s (in this case an older woman) attention after she claims that “…he cannot be a president by our constitution” and then you lean in really close and whisper these words:

“I agree with you but the courts don’t.”

You then spend the rest of your time avoiding the person who caught your words on video and get your staffers to run interference by getting between the video recorder and the congresswoman, and then finally get the staffer to tell the videographer “You know what. Go away. Please go away.”

It’s on You Tube.

I give you Republican congressmen. Democracy inaction.

What a Surprise: Tom DeLay’s a Birther

Tom DeLay, my former congressman, wants to see Barack Obama’s birth certificate. Apparently he has doubts over whether Obama was actually born where his Certificate of Live Birth and two 1961 announcements in Hawaiian newspapers say that he was.

Gee, what a surprise.

This from a guy whose opinion of what the constitutional residency requirement of a US Congressman was challenged and debunked in the case of Texas Democratic Party vs. Tina Benkiser et al.

And he was even dumb enough to bring that whole affair back to the light of day when he was interviewed yesterday by Chris Matthews on his MSNBC news program Hardball.

The question of whether the 2008 Republican candidate was a natural born citizen was settled when it was ruled that John McCain, who was born in the Canal Zone, then a US territory, was a natural born US citizen just as Barry Goldwater, who was born in Arizona when it was also a US territory.

What has never been settled, because it is now a moot point, is whether George W. Romney, who nearly pulled off getting the Republican nomination in 1968 was a natural born US citizen.

Because George Romney was born in Mexico.

The father of Mitt, former Michigan governor George Romney was born in a Mormon settlement in Mexico, but somehow the question never really came up as to whether he was eligible to run for president.

That he was born to American parents, I am thinking, was the explanation that was provided. A child born to US citizens in any foreign country automatically has US citizenship.

So now I have to ask, why do Republicans take such umbrage over this issue? They do not deny that Obama’s mother was a US citizen and as such passes on her citizenship to her son.

Even if Obama was born in Kenya, actually then a British colony, his mother’s citizenship entitles Obama to claim US citizenship. Obama is “a natural born citizen” as opposed to a “naturalized citizen.” There is no third choice.

So all of these arguments are for naught. If George Romney qualified as a US citizen, so does Barack Obama wherever he was born.

So why do Republicans (and now Tom DeLay) keep up the noise over this issue? I suppose it is for the same reason that male dogs lick their scrotums.

Because they can.

And because they are running dog racists.
