Recount in Texas CD 27

Congressman Solomon Ortiz (D – Corpus Christi) has demanded a manual recount. The unofficial results of last Tuesday’s vote in CD 27 shows Republican candidate Blake Farenthold with a slim lead, ahead of Ortiz by 799 votes.

But with uncounted votes turning up here and there all over the district, it seems clear that this election is far from over.

“Ortiz trailed his Republican challenger, former small business-owner Blake Farenthold, by 799 votes following Tuesday's election in the 27th District, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State's Office. But he gained seven votes two days later, when previously uncounted ballots from Robstown — all marked for Ortiz — were found and certified.”

“‘We still need to ensure every vote is counted before determining the outcome of this race,’ Ortiz said in a late Friday statement.”

So now it begins. Texas CD 27 may just be the first step up and out of the deep hole that Democrats have dug for themselves last Tuesday by staying home and not voting in this vitally important election. Should Ortiz succeed it will be by a very narrow margin, symbolic of how it is going to go in the long climb ahead of us.

And should he not succeed, a narrow win by Farenthold, whose photograph wearing Lucky Duck pajamas standing next to a Corpus Christi hottie dressed in scanty lingerie was pasted into websites all over the nation, is itself symbolic of the poor choices Americans have made in last Tuesday’s electoral disaster.

A disaster that may just make a 2nd term for Barack Obama more than possible.
