It has now been three months since 20 babies were cut to
pieces by a Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle being wielded by a lunatic who
wanted to rack up a death toll like his Norwegian hero did – choosing an
elementary school because of its target-rich environment.
A delay of three months is just what the NRA divined in its
game plan to go back to status quo until the next massacre. And hopefully the
next massacre won’t involve babies because that got people really riled up for
a longer period of time than usual.
Here is President Obama’s weekend address where he
concentrated on the initiatives being argued in the Senate. Initiatives that
all deserve a vote. A vote so we can identify again the Senators who are in the
back pocket of the NRA because the vast majority of Americans favor these new
laws.
And yes, I believe that the 2nd Amendment is an
anachronism written in the 18th century when only one-shot muskets
and pistols were available to us. And militias were meaningful in a wartime setting.
Either we should all be allowed to own any kind of weapon of
war as anyone in the military, or we should only own guns that were available
at the time the 2nd Amendment was written.
