Media Matters has it on their website here. When they say that 20% of Americans can’t find their own country on a world map, the people at Fox News might just find themselves in that number. According to this screen grab, Fox News continues to educate their viewers with stuff that is just wrong.
Like identifying the position of Egypt where Iraq should be in their screen graphics.
You know, Egypt, that entity that has been identified as a sovereign nation for 5000 years that we know of.
A country that was a country before most people had any national identity at all.
I guess before we let the Fox/Breitbart Shirley Sherrod defamation scheme fade into the news of last week, as it already seems to be doing, I thought people should hear what Congressman Al Green had to say on the matter.
Green spoke to what we have all been thinking. The Obama Administration, as with the NAACP, acted too quickly to condemn Ms. Sherrod, but upon seeing their respective errors, both were quick to reverse themselves and acknowledge that they had made a huge mistake. They did. But imagine anyone in the Bush government doing anything like that. Not only did that not ever happen, it has not yet happened.
As a matter of fact, Republicans are now revealing that should they regain power in congress the failed agenda of the Bush administration will be carried out anew.
I was amazed this morning to see that included in the “Roundtable Discussion” on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos was a Fox News talking head by the name of Laura Ingraham.
Why is this legitimate news program including someone in the discussion who has no real credentials in news media, either as a news maker or as a journalist? Then I got my answer. One of the items on the agenda was the controversy of the Obama Administration’s open warfare with Fox News.
That is, if you are going to talk about Fox, why not have a member of their breed at the table?

I find Laura Ingraham to be an irritating person. I hate the sound and tone of her voice. And try as she might she simply cannot function without applying liberal doses of sly snarkiness that is the trademark of Fox News.
It makes me truly wonder what goes on in the minds of people who get all of their news from Fox. It really must affect your very soul to have a constant barrage of untruths, non-news and manufactured news hurled at you day in and day out.
The only comfort that it gives me is that according to the clip Fox News is the opposition.
Quoting Leon Podesta:
“I think Fox takes it a little bit to a different level, I think ah Bill Shine the vice president for news at Fox came out and said ‘We are the opposition’. You know, that I think can you imagine [ABC News president] David Weston going out and saying something like that?”
Because if Fox News is the opposition the Republican Party, the former opposition, is truly a party in trouble. Trouble in the way of approaching the edge of existence.
Applied to the upper cheek, just below those pale blue orbs of his, Vicks VapoRub also brings on those famous crocodile tears.
So now that Beck’s show has lost over 60 sponsors over his wild charge that Barack Obama is a racist, it seems appropriate that one industrial giant might want to back his show, because Beck has shown to the world that there is yet another use for Proctor and Gamble’s famous product.
It should come as no surprise that the great communicator of the present generation, Barack Obama, accomplished a Guinness Moment this weekend, breaking all records for news program appearances on a single weekend day, Sunday.
Obama should go down as one of the most accessible presidents in American history, particularly coming off of the previous president, who held more meetings with the mesquite brush growing on his ranch in Crawford than any meeting with living breathing humans (let alone those from the 5th estate).
Indeed.
Not only did Barack Obama appear in the three news shows that I watch on Sunday morning, NBC’s Meet the Press, ABC’s This Week and CNN’s State of the Union, he also showed up on CBS’ Face the Nation and Univision’s Al Punto.
Notably, Univision did not even solicit an interview with the president.
The White House asked them.
And to top it all off, Obama will return to David Letterman’s late night show tonight.
Now which program seems to be missing here? That’s five, after all.
Could it be . . . Fox News?
Dear God, they snubbed Fox News.
But then, the category was, after all, a news program and not an entertainment program, as we continually find Fox News to find itself habitually classified under.
But wait, isn’t David Letterman’s Late Night program an entertainment program? Yes, I guess that’s true. But the difference is, Letterman’s program is funny “ha-ha” not funny “odd and weird.”
So do you think that Fox News is taking this blatant affront to their legitimacy as a news program lying down? No way, no how. In fact, if you Google it you find that Fox News is the single most common result when you want to find out who is talking about Obama’s weekend news show blitz.
Fox’s Chris Wallace went out of his way to bemoan the fact that Obama didn’t want to give this crew the time of day. Obama likes associating with truth tellers, after all. Here is what Wallace had to say:
Wallace “…I think that Fox News Sunday is a truly fair and balanced show . . .”
O’Reilly: “You’re not an ideological show at all . . .”
Wallace: “No, and . . .and it’s like they refused to take yes for an answer. Ah . .eh.. there’s a kind of childishness or pettiness about it.”
O’Reilly: “It’s an immaturity that . . .if you don’t . . .if you don’t hoe our line we’re just gonna [dismissive wave of hand] ice you.”
Here’s the rest of it:
I don’t know which metaphor strikes me as the most appropriate to characterize this take of Fox’s “Not in any way close to the news” news commentators on Obama’s much-needed slight of these creatures, these lying liars who deliver the lies of the dark side.
I’m leaning toward the latter. That must have really hit them hard that the White House preferred, and actually approached, a Spanish language television network over Fox.
Well it didn’t take the crazies down at Fox News any time at all to glom on to the botched up oath that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts delivered to President Obama yesterday, did it? Fox’s Chris Wallace, forever the constitutional law inept, gets it all wrong again.
“You know, Megan, I have to say, I’m not sure that Barack Obama really is the President of the United States because the oath of office is set in the Constitution and I wasn’t at all convinced that ah, even after he tried to amend it that John Roberts ever got it out straight and that Barack Obama ever said the prescribed words. I suspect that everybody is going to forgive him and allow him to take over as President but I’m not sure that he said what is in the Constitution there.”
Or you can watch his idiotic performance here. Why is this so idiotic? If the exact recitation of this oath is the acid test by which the very fact that a person becomes President is based, then this country has never had a valid President. Here is what it says in the Constitution:
“Before he enter on the execution of his office, he shall take the following oath or affirmation:--I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Period. Yet every President since George Washington has added the final phrase, “…so help me God.” And by custom that phrase has even been included in the oath that the Chief Justice utters for the President to repeat. Washington added the phrase voluntarily.
So no President has ever taken the oath of office as set down in the Constitution. Now as to who administers the oath, the Constitution is silent on that issue. But by convention and custom the task has fallen to the Chief Justice. So in reality, Obama did not have to allow the Chief Justice administer the oath. His wife could have done it (and as it turns out, should have). And given their recent history that as US Senators, both Obama and Biden voted not to confirm Roberts as Chief Justice, perhaps President Obama should have considered the possibility that Roberts might intentionally create this mar on an otherwise near-perfect ceremony. Not sayin’ that he did it on purpose. Just sayin’. No, the only real foul-up in the ceremony was including the “Simple Gifts” quintet in the agenda. Now I really appreciated the big names that were called to perform this American classic, and the likes of John Williams to create the arrangement, but what they did to that otherwise pleasant song is truly a crime. But that’s not the worst of it. The worst of it is while they were sawing through that abominable arrangement the seconds past noon were ticking and Bush’s term had already officially expired. Had expired, and we didn’t yet have a President. Well, actually we did. Since Joe Biden had taken his oath of office before the quintet ground out that atrocity, we did have a President. It was Joe Biden, and he continued to be President for a full four minutes.
Just when you think things are going to calm down a bit with the Republicans of Fort Bend County, someone fires another cannon into the deck. Here with the holiday season upon us, carolers going door to door, autos packed with children moving slowly through decorated neighborhoods, now we have the Fort Bend “C Club” announcing that they were going to party down after the primary with Tony Snow.
If you don’t live around here, you probably don’t know what the “C Club” is. The C Club, “C” is for Conservative, is a new PAC consisting of moderate conservatives where members are strictly by invitation only, and they have to plunk down a hefty $1500 fee just for the honor of being included on the exclusive membership list. Members include former officers of the Fort Bend GOP and others who are disaffected by recent goings on within the local party.
The question is asked at FortBendNow: if you are going to have to decide which event are you going to plunk down your usual $10,000 (yes folks, they are loaded) for, the FBGOP’s Lincoln-Reagan Dinner featuring Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael L. Williams and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Birdwell as guest speakers, or the C Club’s own gala a mere month later that features former Bush press secretary and now Fox News commentator Tony Snow, which would you opt for?
So county Republicans are either going to have to pony up twice the price to attend both, or make a choice between the radical fringe’s Lincoln-Reagan Dinner featuring what’s-their-names, or the moderate’s par-tée with Tony Snow.
And in so-doing, by the way, making your opinion heard on who should be running the show in Fort Bend.
By the way, the C Club is such a copycat. This is a blatant knockoff of the Begala Gala held by the Fort Bend Democrats in October of ’06, where we had former Clinton advisor and present CNN commentator Paul Begala as guest speaker.
Oh well, as they say immitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
