You Practically Have to Rob A Bank to Pay College Tuition

There is some truth to that.

There is an interesting statistic that has come out about college tuition summarized in the graph below. These days the rates of tuition rate raises are about double the inflation rate, as this graph of ratio of tuition rate to inflation rate vs. year indicates.

This helped explain to me this current bizarre article seen in the Houston Chronicle. A pair of college students in Reading, Ohio were arrested for robbing a bank last July. They robbed the bank, they said, because they could no longer afford their college’s tuition.

They are due for sentencing for their crime, and face up to 20 years in prison.

So next time you come across a Senator or Congressman who voted against raising the Pell Grant rates, mention the fact that people are being priced right out of higher education, and priced right in to state prison.
