Tomorrow is the Filing Deadline

As per usual, the Fort Bend County Democratic Party Chair has reserved tomorrow, January 4th 2010, as the day for local candidates to file their candidacy papers if they intend to run in the 2010 Democratic Primary this March 2nd.

It is important to know this on a couple of levels. First, 2010 marks the first year in maybe 35 that a Democrat has a snowball’s chance in H-E- Double hockey sticks to win in a November face-off against a Republican incumbent. Demographers say that this year Democrats should be at parity with their Grand No Party counterparts if not in the majority.

So not to file this year is probably a mistake.

Second, a candidate has this one chance, on this one day, to get his or her papers in. For whatever reason, this is what goes on in Fort Bend County, in the Democratic Party.

So if you intend to file for anything, from Precinct Chair on up, first, you should note a change in venue. The previously announced site where filings may be made has been changed, per this paragraph from the county party’s website:

“We will be accepting applications on January 4, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Judge Joel Clouser's court room, 303 Texas Parkway, Missouri City TX. NO Applications Can Be Accepted After 6 p.m. on 1/4/2010.”

The Republicans have high hopes for a rout this year. So if there is a reason to file and run it is this: any win here in Fort Bend County after so many years of Republican domination will surely suck the wind out of the opposition’s sails and make them think twice about “shenanigans as usual” in Fort Bend County.
