Sarah Palin to Resign?

Well you could have knocked me over with a feather. Sarah Palin just conducted a news conference at her Wasilla home, amid raucous waterfowl in the background (and Russia not in the view). She announced that not only will she not seek re-election as governor of Alaska, but she will also be stepping down as governor on July 25th.

At that time, at the state’s annual Governor’s Picnic in Fairbanks, Alaska’s Lt. Governor Sean Parnell will be sworn in as governor.

The first was quite predictable. It has been so much in the news that she wants to go up against Barack Obama in 2012, and to do so as governor would draw lots of heat, as it did when she was campaigning with John McCain.

The speech, done alarmingly without notes, was an incredible rambling oration where she hauled out her family at some points, and sports analogies at others. And then, inevitably, still more praise was heaped on the troops.

All you could really get out of it was that she seemed to be disaffected by how she has been mauled in the press, and that it costs the state extra dollars just having her as a governor (but no mention of the nearly $300,000 spent in various ethics investigations – Troopergate being the most prominent among them).

I think people will be scratching their heads over this one. Why on Earth does she resign? This means that other than being the mayor of Wasilla, and a hockey mom, Palin’s only other credential for leadership is one incomplete term as a state governor.

My advice to all the head scratchers out there is to stop scratching. Don’t look into this too deeply. The woman is a chronic liar.

And a nitwit.

This was nothing more than political suicide. Stick a fork in her, she’s done.

Hal, God knows, I hope you are right.

According to your stated fact that59,934,814 people voted for her previously is frightening fact, indeed! You know we have shot ourselves in the foot before. I pray not to be repeated.

There are those die hards like the Tea Partiers for example who refuse to give Obama his due. They keep making a reason out of no reason to discredit him. Even this sex debacle with Governor Sanford, he implicitly blames Obama, for he states and I'm paraphrasing, but he says more or less the following: After having gone through a grueling battle over the Stimulus Package and having lost that battle, I was looking for an exotic experience of relaxation and release of stress, etc, etc.

Consequently, people who so blinded by racism, partisan resentment, envy, and jealousy of Obama and his success thereof do not mind cutting off their noses to spite their faces, even if it means voting for the likes of a Sarah Palin. You, know something else that just occurred to me this very moment as I write this commentary, is that Sarah Palin may have been encouraged and advised that since this scandalous Sanford Affair has erupted that her chances at 2012 Republican nomination has just escalated as perceived reality.

Hal, I was mesmerized by Palin's speech. She rambled from subject to subject without any transition. Even the talking heads were confused by her resigning her position. No one understood what her future plans are. Like everyone else I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. What she did was suicide to any further political positions. She just keeps on giving.

Hal,

I have to admit that the photo made me laugh. I couldn't figure out at first why the picture and then it dawned on me. At your advance age you would fall for a middle-aged broad wrapped up in a flag bikini toting an assault rifle and trying to look 20.

Happy 4th. of July friend!

To quote another major Republican politician/movie star: "She'll be back."

After this, Bowler, doubt it highly. Sarah's a well done roast.

Truth to tell, she will be missed.
