Republicans Thank God The Bahamas Are Not American

Just think, if you will, what would have happened if the Commonwealth of The Bahamas had been American soil. Think about it.

Hurricane Gustav completely trashed Day One of the Republican Party’s Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Trashed it. An act of the Lord God prevented the opposition from opening their convention with fanfare, celebration, music and gaiety. Well, as much as Republicans can be gay, anyway.

Instead we were treated to day-long news accounts of how well, or how badly the Gulf Coast took the landfall of Hurricane Gustav, and how Republicans, with their crocodile tears, pled for donations to help Gulf Coast residents recover from the onslaught of Gustav. Indeed, Cindy McCain, with her beer distributorship inheritance, standing next to Laura Bush, could probably knock the frowns off of thousands with a little taste of her millions. But asked for donations instead.

Nevertheless, the Republican Party will reconstitute anew tomorrow as Gustav degrades to tropical storm status, then tropical depression, then to a cliché.

But what of Hurricane Hanna? Hanna is churning her way up the western Atlantic chewing up sand as she passes over the Bahamian bank, with all of those islands from now until Wednesday.

But The Bahamas, while an American tourist destination, are not American. So while thousands of Bahamians get pounded out of their homes tomorrow and Wednesday, the Republicans will dance and play in the Twin Cities.

They, the citizens of The Bahamas have the unfortunate situation of not being American. Or for the most part, of not being white.

So Hanna doesn’t count, does it?

No, it doesn’t. And that is a point that the Lord God is missing when He sends His three mighty winds, Gustav, Hanna and Ike, against American soil in answer to the prayers of James Dobson’s pious follower Stewart Shepard. The so-called Christian who prayed that the Lord God send His rain to Denver on the night of Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco Field last Thrusday.

He misses it in that He doesn’t understand, maybe, that The Bahamas aren’t of the US despite the fact that the islands are so close, and depend on American tourists for their very survival. Despite all of that, they are not American.

So the Republican convention will proceed anew on Tuesday, music included.

Because Bahamians aren’t Americans.

Hanna isn’t projected to hit US soil, South Carolina in point of fact, until Friday. Republicans must be sighing a sigh of relief that they can hold their convention in the time window (almost) between hurricanes. They can be happy and gay on camera.

Because the black people of The Bahamas are not American.

It's too bad it takes a storm to bring us together, and it's too bad that YOU and not the republicans are trying to exploit it.

Typical Repub reaction. It was a satire oh one of no humor. And it was commentary on Repub attitude toward minorities.

A satire on the sad sack who prayed for rain to fall in Denver last Thursday.

A comment on attitude. All you have to do is watch the convention and observe the sea of white faces.

Yes, I watch the Repub convention so others don't have to.

Ummm.. I watched both conventions and their were members of both races there, but why are you bringing up the issue of race?

As far as some small extremest group wanting it to rain, what does this have to do with you mocking Hurricane relief for victims? When a Hurricane hits anywhere or there is any loss of life its terrible. How could they not put a hold on the convention?

It was a SATIRE, Anon. How many times do I have to say it?

Are you telling me that the Republican Party is racially diverse?

Are you kidding yourself?
