Newsy News For June 8th

After being convicted of DWI/DUI in Los Angeles County, California, Paris Hilton was sentenced to 3 years probation. Because she broke several conditions of her probation, she was sentenced on May 4th to 45 days in jail which she started serving on June 3rd. The county sheriffs’ office, however, released her after three days of incarceration, citing health issues. She would remain under house arrest, wearing a monitoring bracelet for 40 days.

LA attorneys, angered over her release by the County Sheriff, got her back into court today in a media frenzy that included Paris Hilton being escorted into the courtroom in handcuffs. In the hearing that ensued, Judge Sauer ruled that there was no evidence of a medical condition and ordered the Sheriff’s Department to carry out the original sentence. Paris was seen crying, sobbing, and calling for her mother as she was escorted out of the courtroom by Sheriff’s deputies.

Isaiah Washington was dropped from the cast of Grey’s Anatomy.

“After a controversial season, ABC confirms that Isaiah Washington will not be returning to the cast of Grey's Anatomy.”

Entertainment Tonight reports that this could really cut into the cliffhanger ending of the series’ season finale:

“Viewers were left with uncertainty as to the fate of both Isaiah and T.R. Knight during this season's cliffhanger ending. Washington walked out on his wedding, while Knight failed to pass his intern exam and was uncertain he would continue at the hospital. As previously reported, Knight will be back for the next season of ‘Grey's.’”

It will be remembered that Washington had himself checked into a rehab facility after making anti-gay remarks (he called someone a faggot) at the Golden Globes Awards, prompting this remark on the part of neoconservative commentator Ann Coulter.

Also today, rocker Richie Sambora, lead guitarist for Bon Jovi, checked himself into a rehab facility in Los Angeles. This comes on the heels of his recent split with his wife Heather Locklear, and with his most recent girlfriend Denise Richards.

Bon Jovi’s latest CD, Lost Highway, will be released on June 19th.

In other news, gunmen attacked the home of the chief of police of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, killing 14 people. As the chief was not at home, they kidnapped four the chief’s children. Twelve people were killed and 33 wounded when a minibus exploded in Qurna, near the southern Iraqi city of Basra. Nineteen people were killed and 20 wounded when a car bomb exploded outside a Shi'ite mosque in Dakok southwest of Kirkuk. The bodies of four men kidnapped from Ramadi were found in al-Khalidiah near Falluja, 50 km (30 miles) west of Baghdad, police said. All had been tortured and shot.

US out of Iraq. Now.
